CREATING RITUALS FOR OUR LIVES
Over the course of 25 years of working with individuals, couples and families, I have found that many people have a void in their lives when it comes to positive rituals and traditions. My aim is to coach people to build simple, daily routines and rituals that fit their lifestyles, meaningful rituals that celebrate important milestones and passages and, if needed, healing rituals for painful transitions or losses.
From the New York Times (12-10-02) “Family rituals and routines can be good for both physical and mental well-being, a study being published today in the Journal of Family Psychology concludes.”

BENEFITS OF RITUAL
• In families with predictable routines, children had fewer respiratory illnesses, better overall health and performed better in elementary school.
• Adolescents in families with strong rituals reported a stronger sense of self.
• Couples with good, lasting marriages spend an extra “5 magic hours a week” with specific daily and weekly connecting and affirming rituals.
• Kids raised in families who have regular chores and family dinners have greater success in their pursuits of higher education.
• Family rituals often increase children’s self-esteem, security and sense of belonging.
• Single people can decrease stress and loneliness and create a sense of order, peace and connection with others with simple rituals.
• Most teens in North America do not have formal “Coming of Age Rituals.” Instead, driving, drinking, Facebook and cell phones take their place. This leads to an unhealthy overvaluing of these activities.
• Positive family rituals and celebrations build the positive memory bank of children. When interviewed, these are the rituals that adults remember fondly about their childhoods.
